In an exciting addition to our events this year we welcome Schola Cantorum of Bristol University under their Director, Dr Emma Hornby. They will be entertaining us with a varied programme of sacred medieval song written for English nunneries and secular song celebrating Spring and Summer. The glorious medieval barn will provide a perfect setting for this programme.
Refreshments appropriate to the period will be available during the interval.
Although this is Summer, the barn can still be quite cool
inside, so warm clothing is advised.
For tickets at £8 each please send a cheque made payable to Winterbourne Medieval Barn Trust and s.a.e. to Robert Beetham, 15 Grove Bank, Frenchay, Bristol BS16 1NY. In case of problems, Tel 0117 957 4921.

To all the living in the lands of the chantry and wardenship of what is now called Saint Michael the archangel, that what used to be called Saint Mary’s, that of the parish church of Winterbourne Manorial estate, and including the good people of the Greater Bristol area and all other lands surrounding this, even that which is beyond the seas: The Winterbourne Medieval Barn activities Group, along with The Company of Chivalry, requests your attendance to the “Annual Winterbourne Medieval Fayre” and there to make merriment.
Yet again we are fortunate enough to be entertained by “The Company of Chivalry”, who re-enact the time of the then King Edward 3rd, and one of his sons, John of Gaunt, of which Lord Thomas Hungerford was a vassal.
It is hoped that my Lord and Lady de Bradeston will be able to attend the Medieval Fayre this year, if he is not away... Read more >>

This year the talk is given by Colin Tudge: "Good Food for Everyone Forever"
Colin Tudge read zoology at Cambridge in the early 1960s and ever since has been writing for a living - on science and natural history and also, his special passion, on food and agriculture.
He has worked for the New Scientist, Farmer's Weekly, BBC Radio 3, and for Britain's erstwhile Agricultural and Food Research Council - but mainly he likes to write books.
In 2009 he helped to establish the Campaign for Real Farming and is now seeking to establish the College for Enlightened Agriculture.
The lecture is free and will be followed by the AGM of Winterbourne Medieval Barn Trust.

This year we are adding something magical to our schedule of events at the Barn when we welcome for the first time the Festival Players from Stroud for a performance of 'Twelfth Night', one of Shakespeare's most delightful romantic comedies.
Shipwrecked on the coast of Illyria, Viola adopts male disguise and enters the fabled Court of Duke Orsino, only to find herself part of an entrancing triangle of unrequited love. What follows is wildly improbable, and very funny, with mistaken identities at the centre of the intrigue, which also involves the machinations of a drunken Knight, a foppish Lord and a wily jester against a pompous lovesick steward.
This hugely entertaining fantasy, which provides fun for the whole family, is brought to you in the clear and energetic style of the Festival Players, with specially composed music by Johnny Coppin.
The performance takes place at the Barn on Friday 3 August at 7.30pm. Tickets... Read more >>
